Police Capture Uber Hijacking Suspect
Law enforcement officials in Johannesburg tracked down the missing Uber driver after the vehicle owner reported his disappearance. Officers located the vehicle and saw a man exiting. The suspect attempted to flee, prompting a chase that ended with his capture.
During questioning, police heard screams and persistent knocking from inside the vehicle’s trunk. Officers opened the trunk and found the trapped Uber driver.
Victim Details Harrowing Ordeal
The Uber driver told police that three men, including the arrested suspect, hijacked him at gunpoint and locked him in the trunk. Authorities confirmed the suspect was found with the vehicle’s keys.
Police arrested him for both kidnapping and hijacking. Officers detained him at the Alexandra Police Station, pending further investigation.

“The officers proceeded to the given location for verification. On arrival, they saw a male exiting the vehicle. When the suspect noticed officers, he fled, leading to a chase and his eventual arrest,” said JMPD.
Authorities urged Uber drivers to remain vigilant and report suspicious activity immediately. Police continue investigating the incident and searching for the remaining two suspects.
