Businessman Thabiso Hamilton Ndlovu who faces a R172 million PPE tender corruption investigation received arrest for assaulting his girlfriend this February.
February 1st of 2025 marked the day when Ndlovu allegedly committed assault at his Bryanston home according to NPA spokesperson Phindi Mjonondwane.
The businessman reacted with intense outrage when he found communication between his girlfriend and her friend. The survivor escaped from the attack before going to file a complaint at Sandton SAPS.
Authorities keep Ndlovu under detention until his scheduled application for formal release occurs on February 13, 2025.
Ongoing fraud investigations
The arrest happens during a period when Ndlovu must deal with the consequences of his companies acquiring COVID-19 procurement contracts worth R172 million through fraudulent PPE tender practices with the National Health Laboratory Service (NHLS).
The Special Investigating Unit (SIU) evaluated the funds and discovered personal expenditures with 90 percent of the money not being used for PPE acquisitions.
The court authorized a 30-day contempt imprisonment for Ndlovu during November 2024 because he did not provide assets required by the case. The court issued him a R500,000 fine during the same period following his breach of the 2022 forfeiture order.
The authorities successfully recouped public funding through selling a Bryanston mansion connected to Ndlovu for 7.1 million rand.
The Special Tribunal ordered Ndlovu to repay an amount of R158 million together with accrued interest.
The legal challenges facing Ndlovu are rapidly building up while he waits for his bail hearing because he must address numerous financial criminal cases.
