Limpopo Police Officer Arrested for Killing Son and His Girlfriend.

Police Sergeant Faces Murder Charges

BOTLOKWA, SOUTH AFRICA – A female Limpopo police officer has been arrested for the fatal shooting of her son and his teenage girlfriend in Mokomene-Mashaha village, Botlokwa. Authorities identified the suspect as Sgt. Sathekge Mosibudi of the Botlokwa SAPS

The tragic incident occurred on February 13, 2025, at approximately 9:48 p.m. Mosibudi reported the shooting to her police station, stating she had shot her son, Sathekge Khutso Remembrance, using her official firearm.

Scene of the Crime

Responding officers discovered a firearm on a table, loaded with six rounds in the magazine and one chambered. They found Khutso dead in a separate room with a gunshot wound to his head. A butcher knife lay in his hand. Nearby, his girlfriend, 16-year-old Naledi Mmonoa, suffered severe gunshot wounds to her head and chin.

Emergency services declared Khutso dead at the scene. Paramedics rushed Naledi to the hospital, but she later succumbed to her injuries. Investigators recovered five empty cartridges and two projectiles.

Mosibudi claimed she acted in self-defense after her son threatened her with a knife. Police arrested her immediately, and an investigation remains ongoing.

Other Shooting Incidents in Limpopo

Authorities also reported two unrelated fatal shootings in the province.

A businessman accused of killing a sheriff in Magoro village, outside Giyani, will appear in the Tiyani Magistrate’s Court next Wednesday for a bail hearing. The suspect allegedly shot the sheriff while he attempted to repossess the suspect’s truck.

Additionally, police arrested a woman in Kwa-Thema for allegedly orchestrating the murder of her husband, EMPD officer Banele Sikhosana. The shooting occurred as Sikhosana opened his tuck shop last week. Investigators revealed that a hitman, who has confessed, received payment from Sikhosana’s wife. Authorities believe this was not the first attempt on his life, as he previously survived a poisoning attempt.

Acting EMPD Chief Julius Mkhwanazi confirmed that police are pursuing another suspect in connection with Sikhosana’s murder. The accused will appear in Springs Magistrate’s Court on Monday.

These incidents have sparked concern over rising violence and betrayal within families in South Africa.
