No Escape for Alleged Hitmen in Mark Lifman Assassination Case?

CAPE TOWN – Two alleged gunmen accused of killing Cape Town businessman Mark Lifman will return to the George Magistrates Court on Thursday. Authorities arrested Johan Hendrik Jacobs and Gert Bezuidenhout shortly after the fatal shooting.

Mark Lifman’s Murder

Mark Lifman was shot and killed in the parking lot of the Garden Route Mall in George in November 2024. At the time, he was on trial with alleged underworld figures Jerome “Donkie” Booysen and Andre Naude. They faced charges related to the murder of “Steroid King” Brian Wainstein.

The shooting raised suspicions of a targeted hit. The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) has since built a strong case against the accused hitmen.

Jacobs and Bezuidenhout last appeared in court seeking bail. However, the court ruled that granting them bail was not in the interest of justice. Prosecutors argued that the men posed a risk if released.

The court sided with the prosecution, keeping the suspects in custody. Officials believe that releasing them could endanger the investigation and witnesses.

Investigation Strengthens State’s Case

Law enforcement continues to gather evidence against the accused hitmen. Investigators have been analysing phone records, surveillance footage, and other data. Authorities believe these findings will strengthen the State’s case.

The NPA has remained confident in securing convictions. Prosecutors argue that the suspects played a direct role in Lifman’s murder. Officials are working to uncover any connections between the hitmen and organized crime networks.

Court Proceedings Resume

As the case moves forward, prosecutors will present new evidence in court. The defense is expected to challenge the findings. However, authorities insist they have enough proof to convict Jacobs and Bezuidenhout for Mark Lifman’s murder.

The George Magistrates Court will determine the next steps in this high-profile trial.
