Officers confiscated heroin, tik, mandrax, ecstasy, compressed dagga, and Xanax, among other illegal substances.

Police raid uncovers drugs hidden in bed base and vehicle

In the first operation, a joint task force of the Cape Town K9 Unit and the Maitland Flying Squad raided a property on Van Riebeeck Road in Brooklyn.

Authorities discovered a major drug stash concealed inside the base of a bed and a parked vehicle on the premises.

Police seized heroin, tik, mandrax tablets, ecstasy tablets, compressed dagga, medicine containers, and Xanax tablets. They detained a 26-year-old man for dealing drugs.

“The swift response by members of the Cape Town K9 Unit and Maitland Flying Squad led to the arrest of a 26-year-old man for dealing in drugs on Tuesday, February 25,” said police spokesperson Sergeant Wesley Twigg.

This bust is part of a broader crackdown on drug-related crimes in Cape Town, where authorities have intensified surveillance in known hotspots.

Routine patrol leads to second drug bust in the city center

In an unrelated case, officers from the Cape Town Central Police Station were conducting routine patrols on Orange Street when they spotted a man displaying suspicious behavior.

Upon searching him, officers found 50 mandrax tablets and 48 small packets of crystal meth. They also discovered five packets of dagga and two large bags of dagga.

Police arrested the 43-year-old suspect on the spot for drug possession.

“The suspects will make their respective court appearances in the Cape Town Magistrate’s Court once they have been charged,” Twigg confirmed.

Cape Town police are prioritizing drug-related arrests. They focus especially on areas where drug use fuels gang activity and violent crime.

Recent statistics suggest that the illicit drug trade remains one of the city’s biggest challenges.

These challenges have prompted ongoing operations to dismantle trafficking networks.

Authorities are demanding that the public immediately report any activities suspected of being linked to drug trade operations.

“Community tip-offs have played a crucial role in identifying and shutting down drug dens,” a senior police official stated.

The latest arrests highlight the ongoing battle against narcotics in the city.

Law enforcement remains committed to dismantling supply chains and holding drug dealers accountable.
