After a police operation, three persons suspected of committing an armed robbery in Letsitele, Limpopo, were taken into custody, according to authorities.
Woman targeted in late-night armed robbery
Officers were able to apprehend them after one of the suspects tried to sell a stolen cell phone.
A 21-year-old woman was going through Msiphana hamlet on the evening of Saturday, February 22, when the event happened, according to Limpopo police spokesperson Lt. Col. Stephen Thakeng.
“A white Toyota Quantum minibus with three male occupants and no registration number approached a female victim who was strolling down the street,” Thakeng stated.
According to Iol, the victim was robbed of an R3,500 smartphone and unexpectedly threatened with a gun. After that, the suspects drove off. After receiving a report, the police began a manhunt for the unnamed individuals.
Breakthrough as suspect tries to sell stolen phone
At approximately 5 p.m. on Tuesday, February 25, authorities were notified that a guy was trying to sell a phone that was identical to the one that had been stolen. After following him to Bridgeway village, officers discovered him in possession of the pilfered cell phone.
He was immediately taken into custody, and two further individuals were apprehended as a result of additional inquiries.
The three suspects, who range in age from 17 to 25, are still being held by the police. On suspicion of armed robbery, they are scheduled to appear at the Ritavi Magistrate’s Court.
Investigations by the police are still ongoing.
