According to emergency personnel, an 18-year-old kid in the KwaZulu-Natal Midlands passed away on Sunday following an alleged drug binge. Another 18-year-old teen was very ill and admitted to the hospital.
Paramedics respond to teens found unresponsive
Paramedics were called to a situation where many kids were apparently not responding, according to Midlands EMS.
Spokesman Roland Robertson stated, “The first reports from the scene suggest that a group of adults and teenagers had been using drugs earlier in the day.”
When paramedics arrived at the initial scene, they discovered an 18-year-old boy in critical condition.
“He experienced cardiac arrest while undergoing treatment,” Robertson stated.
Emergency personnel started CPR right away and were able to revive the patient twice with quick action. At the scene, he was put on a manual ventilator before being taken to a specialty hospital for more treatment.
A second 18-year-old boy was discovered unconscious at a different place shortly after paramedics were summoned there. He was declared dead at the spot after failing to exhibit any signs of life, despite their best attempts, Robertson said.
Authorities launch probe into suspected drug use
According to Iol, the incident’s circumstances are being investigated by local authorities, including the police, who were on both scenes. The chemicals used and whether any arrests have been made have not yet been confirmed by authorities.
Although no other information was immediately available, the South African Police Service was contacted for comment.
Concerns regarding drug use among young people in the area have been raised by the occurrence. Parents and community members have been asked by authorities to be on the lookout for any indications of substance usage and to report them.
