The Gauteng police have launched a murder investigation following the discovery of the decomposed body of Dr. Gomolemo Mokae, a celebrated medical doctor, author, and language activist, at his home in Ga-Rankuwa.
Sowetanlive reports that the the body of Mokae was found on March 5, with the cause of death still unknown.
Police spokesperson Colonel Dimakatso Nevhuhulwi confirmed the case, stating, “A case of murder is opened for further investigations after the body of a 61-year-old man was found decomposed in his house at Ga-Rankuwa on 5 March.” She added that the circumstances surrounding the incident and the cause of death remain under investigation.
Dr. Mokae was a prominent figure in South Africa’s literary and cultural landscape, known for his dedication to promoting African languages.
Mokae authored several novels, including Masego, Kaine le Abele, and Nnete ke serunya, and penned a biographical work on anti-apartheid activist Robert McBride titled Robert McBride: A Coloured Life.
