KEY POINTS

  • Gauteng police discovered a R10 million drug manufacturing lab in Westonaria which resulted in two arrests during their operation.
  • The ruling party thanked police work while demanding people to help authorities stop drug crimes within their communities.
  • The seized items at the site included Mandrax drugs along with manufacturing equipment for drugs.

A drug laboratory with a value of R10 million located in Westonaria has been dismantled by Gauteng’s Organised Crime Unit resulting in two arrests according to the ANC parliamentary caucus’s praise.

According to the ANC study group on police it is important to break drug operations by going after major participants in order to fight South Africa’s rising drug problem.

The fight against drug-related crime requires more than just passing laws and making policies because they cannot function on their own to remove this problem. The caucus requests that every segment of social structures should assist law enforcement through flagging suspicious events.

The National Crime Intelligence teams launched surveillance on the property since unusual activities emerged. The authorities performed a search and seizure operation which resulted in police taking mandrax and drug-manufacturing machines.

Law enforcement apprehended the house owner while he stayed in the drug lab then waited until arresting a second suspect at a later time. The authorities have charged both suspects with producing illegal drugs while dealing drugs to others.

The ANC caucus maintained that drug crime has become a major community threat which poses risks to youths so they ask for public support in collaboration with police forces to combat drug smuggling.
