Murder Investigation Underway
On Sunday, March 2, 2025, Steenberg police launched a murder investigation after a passerby found a charred body in a wheelie bin along Joe Marks Boulevard near the canal. The passerby immediately alerted the authorities.
Sgt. Wesley Twigg confirmed the incident, stating, “Steenberg police have opened a murder case after finding the burnt body of an unidentified man in a wheelie bin on Sunday night.
We are still investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident, but no one has made an arrest yet.
Community Shocked by the Discovery
Nicola Small, chairperson of the Steenberg Community Police Forum, spoke to Daily Voice about the tragedy and how it has affected the local community.
Authorities quickly alerted to a fire, and they responded immediately.The investigation continues, but this event has shaken everyone in our community,” Small said. “SAPS urges anyone with information to come forward. It is deeply disturbing to think that someone could commit such a horrific act.”
