The court sentenced a police sergeant from Limpopo to 15 years in prison. This was after convicting him of robbery with aggravating circumstances. Sergeant Nierush Seanego was formerly with the Mahwelereng visible policing unit. He also received a guilty verdict for defeating the ends of justice.
Robbery Incident Details
The Mokopane Regional Court sentenced Seanego, 39. The conviction stemmed from an incident on February 7, 2023. A marked police vehicle and a silver Toyota Yaris stopped the complainant near Nyl Plaza. Seanego and his accomplices forcibly removed the victim from their vehicle. They searched them, and robbed them of R20,000 before swiftly fleeing the scene.

Investigation and Arrest of Sergeant Seanego
The case came after a thorough investigation by the Limpopo anti-corruption unit, working with the Polokwane tactical response team. The investigation gathered enough evidence to link Seanego to the crime, which led to a warrant for his arrest. Police apprehended the officer at his home within the Mahwelereng policing precinct on March 4, 2024.
Court Proceedings and Final Conviction
Although Mokopane police initially held Seanego, the High Court in Polokwane granted him bail after his appeal. However, following a comprehensive trial, the court convicted him on March 10, 2025. Â Ultimately, he was declared him unfit to possess a firearm.
