Senzo Mchunu, the minister of police, has pledged to increase efforts to stop the increasing crime in the problematic communities of Chatsworth and Inanda, which are both recognized for experiencing an increase in criminal activity.

Mchunu promises action against crime in Inanda and Chatsworth

A recent increase in the homicide rate has citizens worried, so Mchunu pledged swift action. He pledged to bolster law enforcement efforts and voiced his profound concern over the rising criminality in this and other impacted areas in an exclusive interview with Daily News.

The recent increase in crime in places like Inanda, Chatsworth, and other KwaZulu-Natal regions has destroyed us. Until these problems are resolved nationwide, even in high-crime areas like Johannesburg’s Alexandra, we won’t stop,” Mchunu declared.

According to Iol, Senior ANC national executive committee member Mchunu emphasized the gravity of the issue and the necessity for more forceful action to reduce crime in KwaZulu-Natal, which is severely resource-constrained.

He went on to say, “We are dedicated to eliminating crime and creating a safer society where criminals have nowhere to hide.”

In just three days last week, seven killings were reported in Inanda, a suburban neighborhood north of Durban.

Silverglen residents call for urgent intervention to curb violence

Another crime hotspot is Chatsworth’s Silverglen Nature Reserve, which is located more than 40 kilometers south of Inanda. Six dead have been discovered in the area since the year began, which has angered and alarmed the local population.

The increasing urgency was articulated by Silverglen resident Ricky Naicker. “We cannot tolerate the disposal of bodies close to our residences. We are urging the police to act more forcefully. In order to explore how we can cooperate to prevent the crime, we have scheduled a community meeting for Thursday and invited local authorities to participate,” Naicker stated.

The Silverglen Nature Reserve, which was formerly a tranquil location, is now a refuge for illicit activity, Naicker continued. “More bodies will be discovered here if nothing is done right away. Before it’s too late, the government needs to intervene,” he cautioned.

Residents of Inanda gathered at the Amaoti sports ground to express their annoyance and demand greater police interventions following the spate of killings that occurred last week. To help stop the violence, some community members have also proposed sending in the South African National Defence Force (SANDF), armed with conventional weapons.

“Enough is enough. We live in perpetual fear, and people are dying. Sbu Masinga, an Inanda community leader, stated, “We need the SANDF to restore peace if the police are unable to control the situation.”
