Gqeberha Teacher Kidnapped Outside School Reunited with Family

The teacher who was abducted near Happydale Special School in Algoa Park, Gqeberha succeeded in regaining her freedom during Wednesday night.

Teacher released after abduction

The Hawks through their spokesperson Lt-Col Avele Fumba declared that Gqeberha teacher kidnapped, the 45-year-old teacher returned to her family during the night of Wednesday. The abduction of the teacher remained undisclosed by Fumba regarding whether the kidnappers received payment for their actions.

The multidisciplinary task team consisting of Hawks and others pressed forward to return the victim safely back to her family according to Fumba. The ongoing investigation requires people to share their knowledge so we can reach our objective.

Gqeberha teacher kidnapped details

The kidnappers abducted the teacher at 8 a.m. when she parked her grey Toyota Fortuner by three men with firearms who arrived in a white Toyota Corolla. The video footage shows her arrival at the school parking area followed by an ambush when she walked out of her car.

Reactions and condemnation

The Eastern Cape Department of Education issued formal condemnation against the abduction event. Education MEC Fundile Gade labeled the educator kidnapping as a significant infringement of teaching staff rights by describing it as “The abduction of our educators is one of the worst crimes to affect the sector.” Gade pointed out that these actions delete the core human right for life that exists in a democratic free nation.

SADTU declared its outrage at the violent abduction incident because the attack targeted a special school that serves vulnerable students. SADTU strongly insists that schools need to be secure environments completely free from violent incidents.

The authorities handle the case as a priority matter while deploying teams of specialists who deliver psychosocial support for staff and learners at this critical time.
