The Mpumalanga authorities captured two men who allegedly mistreated children at a discipline camp located in Secunda.
Officer custody arrested the suspects who were 29 years old and 24 years old on Tuesday April 8.
Allegations of torturing minors at camp
The perpetrators subjected most of their victims who were beneath the age of eighteen to disturbing abuse during the time of their crime.
The police demonstrated apprehension about evidence which indicated certain victims were delivered to the camp by their parents as part of supposed disciplinary measures.
Several young persons attended the Evander facility where evidence suggests they experienced torture.
Details of the abuse and investigation
A camping victim spent ten days locked in mistreatment and managed to flee the situation on April 8. The child underwent physical abuse through swimming in muddy waters while his head remained covered by mud and received beatings with both sjambok and pick pipe. The boy received no nourishment and no access to basic hygiene standards throughout the entire experience.
The FCS Unit under the Family Violence, Child Protection, and Sexual Offences unit at the police station handles this case as assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.
Court appearance and further proceedings
During the court hearing at Evander Magistrate’s Court on April 11 the defendants awaited their April 16 formal bail application date while detained in custody. Both suspects remain in custody for torturing minors.
