The couple composed of the 50-year-old man and his 40-year-old female companion will stand trial in court on Thursday because of their unlicensed firearms and ammunition possession charges.
The pair encountered arrest after Limpopo provincial investigation unit personnel together with provincial tracking team members conducted an intelligence-generated operation in Thohoyandou.
Colonel Malesela Ledwaba from provincial police stated that the operation began through information related to a suspicious firearms carrier vehicle.
Police pursuit leads to arrests
The police found the vehicle because it fit the details from their informants while it moved through the R524 road toward Punda Maria. Police detection made the driver flee at high speed before the authorities initiated a pursuit. The avoidance run terminated when police cornered the occupied vehicle inside Tshikhudini village.
A 9mm pistol was discovered through the searches of the vehicle. The driver proved unable to offer proper reasoning for the weapon ownership which resulted in his immediate arrest.
Police searches revealed both unlicensed firearms together with seized vehicles
The police investigation proceeded to the driver’s house where they discovered a female inhabitant while conducting another search operation. The police discovered eight additional firearms inside the residential property which resulted in the arrest of the woman.
The criminal investigation enabled officials to confiscate both high-powered vehicles along with all the seizure firearms.
The police have arranged for the detained suspects to stand trial at Thohoyandou Magistrate’s Court for illegally possessing firearms together with unlicensed ammunition.
Police commissioner commends investigation team
Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe commended the investigating team for being resilient in their well-organized work that resulted in confiscating the firearms and vehicles as part of the ongoing investigation.
