A man in his late twenties died after attempting to rob a pedestrian in Sydenham, KwaZulu-Natal.

The incident occurred shortly after 12:15 p.m. on Wednesday. ALS Paramedics responded to the scene after receiving multiple medical calls.

They arrived to find the man with gunshot wounds to his chest. Despite efforts to resuscitate him, he was declared dead on the spot.

The incident unfolded when the man allegedly tried to rob a pedestrian, who then defended himself.

Members of the South African Police Service (SAPS) were present at the scene and have launched an investigation into the incident.

Similar incident in Newlands West

In a similar event, a man was fatally shot during an alleged hijacking attempt in Newlands West, KwaZulu-Natal.

The victim, later identified as Austin Mark Khan, was shot multiple times outside a store. KZNVIP Protection Services responded to the shooting, arriving at the scene around 6 p.m.

According to reports, four armed suspects in a white Toyota Etios sedan attempted to hijack a vehicle.

During their escape, they fired shots at the victim, who was found critically injured. Despite medical efforts, the victim was declared dead at the scene. The suspects fled, and SAPS is continuing its investigation into the crime.
