Police seek help after British doctor shot in Nyanga

Three separate murders under investigation with rewards up to R100,000

Key points:

  • Police reward for killers ranges from R50,000 to R100,000.
  • The victims include a doctor, a principal, and a taxi leader.
  • Public is urged to provide leads via Crime Stop or MySAPS.

Western Cape police have announced a police reward for killers ranging from R50,000 to R100,000. They are seeking information that could lead to the arrest of suspects in three separate murder cases. Authorities are calling on the public to provide credible leads that could move investigations forward.

One of the cases involves Dr. Kar Hao Teoh, a 40-year-old British trauma and orthopedic surgeon. An unknown gunman fatally shot him in Nyanga on August 3, 2023. Teoh, accompanied by his wife and two-year-old son, was traveling from Hermanus to Cape Town International Airport. However, a taxi strike blocked the N2, and their GPS redirected them through Nyanga.

While driving on Ntlangano Road around 6:15 p.m., a man approached their vehicle and shot Teoh in the head. Lieutenant Colonel Malcolm Pojie said the gunman was a light-skinned African male wearing a hoodie. The shooter fled without stealing anything, and the rest of the family remained unharmed. To support this investigation, police are offering a police reward for killers of up to R100,000.

Principal gunned down outside primary school

On January 23, 2025, around 7 a.m., two suspects attacked the principal of Ekutheleni Primary School in Kraaifontein. He had stopped outside the school with his wife. One suspect pulled out a firearm and shot the principal multiple times.

The gunfire also wounded his wife in the arm. The assailants fled the scene on foot and took nothing from the couple. As a result, authorities are offering a R50,000 reward for information that could lead to their arrest.

CATA secretary-general murdered at taxi rank

On April 16, 2025, gunmen assassinated Mongi Titi, 45, the secretary-general of the Cape Amalgamated Taxi Association (CATA). They shot him multiple times while he sat in his stationary Toyota Fortuner at the Nyanga taxi rank.

Although Titi was armed, the attackers did not rob him. They quickly fled the scene before anyone could intervene. To help solve the case, police are offering a R50,000 reward for any helpful leads.

Police ask public to assist

“We appeal to anyone with information regarding these murders or the whereabouts of the suspects to contact Lieutenant Colonel Julian Tarentaal at 082 559 4645 or Captain Lukhanyo Magadla at 082 411 3245,” said Pojie. “Alternatively, members of the public can call Crime Stop at 08600 10111 or use the MySAPS mobile application.”
