JMPD targets illegal delivery bikes in Rosebank

In response to public concerns about unsafe and unlawful delivery bike operations interfering with traffic and pedestrian flow, Rosebank police stepped up their enforcement.

According to JMPD spokesperson Xolani Fihla, “these efforts are part of a broader initiative to improve road safety and ensure compliance with all municipal laws.”

Delivery bikes operating illegally, frequently speeding, weaving through traffic, and parking along pavements without consideration for safety, have increased, according to the city.

According to reports, a large number of drivers do not have current driver’s licenses, car discs, or other documentation that permits foreigners to conduct business in South Africa.

According to Fihla, “these practices put the public in danger, obstruct pavements, which disproportionately affects people with disabilities, and greatly increase traffic congestion.”

The absence of appropriate paperwork, according to JMPD officials, compromises regulatory control of informal delivery services and creates questions about accountability.

Officers detained a man for dagga peddling and seized 15 motorcycles for infractions, including obstruction and license-related charges.

According to The Citizen, ten foreign nationals were also taken into custody by authorities for not meeting immigration standards, such as having missing passports and permits.

According to JMPD, it keeps up educational initiatives that emphasize legal compliance, safe riding techniques, and the value of having the appropriate paperwork.

Officers implemented harsher enforcement measures in the city’s high-risk neighborhoods as a result of repeated disobedience despite ongoing outreach.
