Emergency personnel from the Cato Ridge Hospital Base raced to the area after receiving many urgent reports indicating the heist was underway, according to ALS Paramedics spokeswoman Garrith Jamieson. “The area was engulfed in chaos and carnage when paramedics arrived quickly,” he continued.

According to Jamieson, the tumultuous scene was dispersed over a significant area, with numerous vehicles—including the armored cash transport itself—damaged by gunfire and numerous collisions. To protect the public, the South African Police Service and private security companies promptly roped off the area.

The road was strewn with bullet-riddled cars and broken glass, and the damaged cash van was in the middle, demonstrating how heinous and blatant the attack was during the day. In order to focus treatment and stabilize the injured, paramedics started triaging them right away.

An unintentional casualty who was caught in the crossfire and suffered serious bullet wounds was a man who was apparently riding in a cab. After evaluating his condition, paramedics regrettably found that he had died at the spot from his injuries.

After receiving immediate medical attention from ALS medics, six additional people—including armed security guards who were part of the cash-in-transit operation—were taken to Durban hospitals for additional specialized care and observation.

Investigation continues after cash-in-transit heist leaves victims

As police began a comprehensive investigation into the heinous midday attack, gathering evidence and speaking with witnesses to piece together the timeline, authorities completely closed the R56. Although no arrests have been verified as of yet, investigators are still working to find and capture the guilty suspects.

The event has sparked worries about the safety of both civilians and security personnel in such attacks, as well as the growing audacity of cash-in-transit thefts. The public has been asked by officials to exercise caution and report any suspicious behavior right away.

According to Iol, the prompt action of paramedics and law enforcement officials, who collaborated well in hazardous circumstances to control the situation and tend to the casualties, was commended by emergency services.

Authorities are dedicated to apprehending those responsible for the brutal heist as soon as possible, and more updates are anticipated as the investigation progresses. The vicious incident has left the community in shock, and attempts are being made to strengthen security.
