Gqeberha Man Gets 20 Years for Deadly Home Invasion

Key Points

  • Gqeberha home invasion murder left father and son dead.

  • The suspect was already serving 28 years for prior crimes.

  • He received a separate 20-year sentence to follow after.

A 23-year-old man, Kamvelihle Jekemane, has been handed an additional 20-year prison sentence by the Gqeberha Regional Court for his role in a Gqeberha home invasion murder that claimed the lives of a father and son. The attack occurred on November 17, 2023, in KwaZakhele.

According to National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) spokesperson Luxolo Tyali, the two armed suspects posed as acquaintances seeking a USB before fatally shooting Bongani Elliot Bizwaphi, 52, and his father, Blackie Vuyisile Jacob, 72.

The victims’ family members were held at gunpoint and robbed during the violent intrusion.

Jekemane pleaded guilty to all charges, including double murder, robbery with aggravating circumstances, and unlawful possession of a firearm.

Jekemane already serving time for violent crimes

The court noted that Jekemane was already serving a 28-year sentence handed down in 2024 for unrelated crimes.

This new 20-year sentence will not run concurrently but will begin only after he completes the previous term.

Senior State Advocate Thabisile Ncanana presented victim impact statements, underscoring the emotional trauma suffered by the survivors.

A photo album of the crime scene and ballistic analysis tied the same weapon to both killings.

Gqeberha home invasion murder trial continues for co-accused

The second suspect, whose identity has not been disclosed, will face trial on October 7 and 8, 2025. Authorities have separated the cases to ensure a thorough prosecution.

Eastern Cape Director of Public Prosecutions Barry Madolo called the attack “senseless and brutal,” praising the sentence as a reflection of the court’s commitment to justice.

“The ruling sends a strong message against violent crime,” Madolo said. “We stand firm in ensuring justice for victims and accountability for perpetrators.”
