CAPE TOWN, South Africa — Premier Soccer League (PSL) General Manager Andile “Ace” Ncobo has officially resigned from SuperSport’s Extra Time following his court appearance on fraud and money laundering charges.
Ncobo and Wife Face Charges in Court
Authorities brought Andile Ncobo fraud charges before the Bellville Magistrate’s Court on Monday, May 5. Prosecutors alleged that Ncobo and his wife, Salome, misappropriated millions of rand intended for schools in the Eastern Cape.
The court granted bail in the afternoon. Ncobo paid R50,000, while Salome paid R30,000. The court scheduled their next appearance for May 29, 2025.
Ncobo Steps Down From Extra Time
Ncobo, who served as a familiar face on DStv Channel 202 for over a decade, took to Facebook on Tuesday to announce his resignation from Extra Time. He had co-hosted the football analysis program for 13 years.
“For the past 13 years, we’ve spent Monday evenings together,” Ncobo wrote. “We developed a love-hate relationship like real football people always do. You loved me when my analysis favored your club. You hated me the following week when it didn’t.”
He also shared the exact moment he made the decision to step down.
“Sadly, the very first thing I did after walking out of court was to call my SuperSport Football boss,” Ncobo said. “I told him I would step away from the show with immediate effect. I don’t want my personal issues to damage the value the show brings to the football community. I also want to preserve the reputation of the SuperSport brand.”
Maintains Innocence and Urges Support
Although the Andile Ncobo fraud charges remain unresolved, Ncobo strongly asserted his innocence. He also acknowledged the legal principle of being presumed innocent until proven guilty.
“Innocent as I know I am, and innocent as the Constitution upholds, I thought it best to make this decision,” he wrote. “I will now become one of the many viewers who enjoy the show each week. Please continue to support it. Thank you.”
