Police are investigating a murder after they found an unidentified man’s body floating in North End Lake. This discovery prompted authorities to seek the public’s help in identifying the victim.
Discovery of the Body
At approximately 6:24 a.m. on Thursday, a vagrant notified a local resident about the body in the water. The resident immediately alerted police, who quickly arrived at the scene.
Police officers from Mount Road SAPS confirmed the report and dispatched divers to retrieve the body from the lake. Authorities found the deceased man’s hands and feet bound and are treating the case as a homicide.
Details of the Victim
Authorities describe the victim as a male, likely between the ages of 30 and 35. He had a circle-shaped beard and wore black tracksuit pants and a faded black t-shirt. They found no identification on the body, leaving them without a lead on his identity.
Captain Sandra Janse van Rensburg, spokesperson for the Eastern Cape police, emphasized that the case is under investigation. Consequently, she stated,
“At this stage, no further information is available. Therefore, we urge anyone with information to come forward.”
