LUSIKISIKI, South Africa – A 30-year-old Eastern Cape man will appear in the Lusikisiki Magistrate’s Court on Monday for the murder of a 31-year-old woman. He also faces charges of unlawful possession of firearms, ammunition, and suspected stolen property.
Police arrested the suspect on Saturday after receiving a tip-off about his involvement in the murder. The victim was killed on Friday in Malizole locality, Hombe administrative area.
Illegal Firearms Recovered
Capt. Welile Matyolo, police spokesperson, confirmed that officers recovered three unlicensed firearms during the arrest. These included two revolvers without serial numbers and a 9mm pistol with an intact serial number.
“Preliminary investigations revealed the 9mm pistol was stolen in Bishop Lavis, Cape Town,” Matyolo said.
Authorities are investigating whether the firearms were used in the murder or other crimes.
Police Uniform Discovered
During the investigation, the suspect led police to Ludiwana locality in Flagstaff, where they found police uniforms. The recovered items included field dress trousers, grey shirts, police belts, and caps.
Police are working to determine how he obtained the uniform and whether he impersonated an officer.
Ongoing Investigation
OR Tambo District police commissioner Maj-Gen Norman Modishana praised officers for their swift action.
“We will leave no stone unturned in finding all involved in this brutal murder,” Modishana said.
Authorities are urging anyone with information about the case to come forward.
The suspect remains in custody as police continue their investigation. He is expected to appear in court on Monday.
