SAPS emphasized its commitment to transparency. Brigadier Gantana stated that the police service will hold any implicated officers fully accountable.
“Any member involved in criminal activities must face due process,” Gantana said.
The arrest highlights a growing focus on rooting out corruption within law enforcement. It also follows other recent disciplinary actions within the Eastern Cape police force.
Officials continue urging the public to report misconduct and unethical behavior involving law enforcement officers.

In a different incident, a Hogsback police officer allegedly shot and killed her boyfriend. The two had returned from a traditional ceremony in Alice on May 4.
An argument reportedly erupted when they arrived home. According to Brigadier Gantana, the officer pulled her official firearm and fired one shot.
The bullet struck her boyfriend in the upper body. He died at the scene.
