The police arrested Bellair resident Ashley Ramsarup at age 52, a durban clerk because he operated a medical practice in Chatsworth without holding valid medical qualifications.
Ramsarup has been charged with conducting a medical practice at Dr. Muruvan’s deceased surgery for over five years.
Ramsarup received R2000 bail from the police who arrested him at the station on April 16, 2025. He presented at Chatsworth Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday to face Health Professions Act 56 of 1974 charges because he practiced medicine without medical practitioner registration.
Durban clerk arrested for impersonating as medical personnel
Ramsarup took control of the medical establishment belonging to deceased physician Dr. Muruvan during the investigation period.
The accusations against Ramsarup emerged when he assumed control of the clinic managed by deceased doctor Dr. Muruvan in 2020. Ramsarup who worked as a clerk assumed medical doctor status to treat surgery patients across Havenside.
The hearing will continue after further investigation until the end of May when both parties will return to court.
