A French couple who used a chainsaw to brutally murder their dog in retaliation for the loss of their cat have been sentenced to prison.

The catastrophe happened in the northern French town of Levis in May 2024. Following reports of domestic violence at the couple’s residence, authorities were notified.
The woman told a court in Auxerre that she stabbed the Argentinean mastiff after seeing her partner’s cat dead, according to the French newspaper Le Parisien.
The pair, whose identities have not been made public, initially stated that they planned to put the dog down due to its threat. They eventually acknowledged, nevertheless, that they had beheaded the animal because, at the time, that was the only choice.
According to the man’s testimony, both had been drinking excessively prior to the incident. Before putting the dog through a horrifying 20-minute ordeal, he claimed they each drank two beers and a liter of vodka.
Court sentences couple for brutal dog killing
According to Iol, the 38-year-old man acknowledged that he killed the dog in order to “avenge” the loss of his cat. He has a history of drug and alcohol misuse. His 31-year-old partner was given a two-year sentence, and he was given an 18-month prison term.
In a another case, a French woman is accused of throwing her puppy from a third-floor balcony at Johannesburg’s OR Tambo International Airport in November 2024.
According to the National Council of Societies for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (NSPCA), the dog had to be put down due to serious injuries.
The woman had flown from France to Johannesburg on her way to Brazil, according to Grace de Lange, chief operations officer for the NSPCA. For the flight, she had bought a ticket for her dog to travel with her.
Surveillance film captured the woman strolling through the airport with her small black puppy running unrestrained two days after she arrived in South Africa. She quickly grabbed the dog and tossed it over the balcony railing.
According to De Lange, “the dog, badly hurt and bleeding from the mouth, lay on the ground, barely alive but still clinging to life.”
Inspectors from the Kempton Park SPCA were dispatched to the site after airport officials informed them. After being brought to a local veterinary facility, the dog was euthanized after it was discovered to have numerous internal injuries.
The woman, who reportedly suffered from mental illness, passed away in Thembisa Hospital a few days later.
