According to the South African Police Service (SAPS), a 23-year-old man has been taken into custody in relation to the killing of a 17-year-old schoolgirl in Kanyamazane.
Kanyamazane schoolgirl last seen heading to school
On Friday, March 14, 2025, at approximately 5:45 a.m., the victim left her home to catch a bus to school, marking the last time her family saw her. But at around 5:30 p.m. that same day, police were notified of a potential inquest at Kanyamazane’s Extension 16.
The suspect, who at first pretended to be a worried citizen, greeted officers upon arrival. He escorted the police to a room where the girl’s body was found dead. They discovered a piece of rope hanging from the ceiling and another tied around her neck.
The suspect denied any involvement in the incident and asserted that the room belonged to his brother. However, crucial evidence connecting him to the crime was found during police investigations. These conclusions led to the man’s arrest and official murder charge.
On Monday, March 17, 2025, he is expected to appear in the Kanyamazane District Court.
