Three Men Arrested for Tampering with a Corpse in Isipingo

KEY POINTS

  • Three men were arrested in Isipingo after being caught transporting a decomposing body in a wheelbarrow, leading to charges of tampering with a corpse and attempting to defeat the ends of justice.
  • The suspects provided conflicting stories when questioned, and the cause of death of the deceased, an African male in his 30s, remains unknown.
  • The incident has shocked the local community, and an ongoing investigation aims to uncover the identity of the deceased, the cause of death, and the suspects’ motives.

On a quiet Saturday morning in the Malabar Hills area of Isipingo, a routine patrol by PT Alarms members turned into a chilling encounter.

At around 8:00 AM, the team noticed three men acting suspiciously, pushing a wheelbarrow along Mahes Road.

What initially seemed like an ordinary scene in Isipingo quickly took a dark turn when the members realized the wheelbarrow contained what appeared to be the body of an adult male.

PT Alarms spokesperson Dhevan Govindasamy recounted the incident, stating, “Our team immediately intervened and conducted an investigation.

They discovered the body of an African male, believed to be in his 30s, being transported by the men. There were no visible physical injuries on the deceased, and the cause of death remains unknown.”

When questioned by the PT Alarms members, the three men provided inconsistent and contradictory explanations about their actions.

Their inability to give a coherent account of why they were transporting the body raised immediate red flags. The men were detained on the spot, and the Isipingo police were called to the scene.

Community Shocked by Gruesome Incident

The incident has sent shockwaves through the Isipingo community, with residents expressing concern over the brazen nature of the crime.

The Pilgrim informal settlement, where the body was reportedly being transported from, is known for its high levels of poverty and crime. However, this incident has left even seasoned residents stunned.

Local community leader Thandeka Mkhize commented, “This is deeply disturbing. We are used to hearing about crime, but something like this is unheard of. We hope the police will get to the bottom of this and ensure justice is served.”
