A department of Transport intern (28 years old) who works in Nelspruit’s Mpumalanga branch faces corruption charges as he awaits his Thursday court appearance at Thohoyandou Magistrate’s Court.

Details of the transport dept intern that was arrested

A 28-year-old intern at the Department of Transport in Nelspruit, Mpumalanga received police arrest on Wednesday after the anti-corruption unit of Limpopo province submitted a complain A complaint stated that the intern approached people to secure traffic officer employment by requesting R6,500 from each person, leading to the arrest of the transport dept intern.

Operation leads to arrest

A sting operation began at Thohoyandou policing area following the submitted complaint reports Mashaba. The meeting occurred at the designated place between the suspect and his victims who he expected to pay him according to their pre-agreement.

The police team enacted their intervention after receiving the payment to immediately make the arrest. The police detained R2,000 from the intern during his arrest.

An investigation into the SAPS Thohoyandou intern has started through joint efforts between the provincial anti-corruption unit and Democrats for Priority Crime Investigation officers who work at the Hawks base in Musina.

The speedy handling of the case received praise from Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe who serves as Limpopo’s provincial commissioner of police. The strong message about law enforcement corruption intolerance comes through the arrest according to Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe.

She also praises the detectives for halting all manifestations of corruption. The police force emphasizes that citizens must maintain their efforts in reporting corruption throughout the area.
