Eldorado Park residents expressed their frustrations over rising crime during a ministerial imbizo led by Deputy Police Minister Cassel Mathale.

The meeting, held at the Done Mateman Hall, offered a platform for locals to voice their concerns about police service.

Residents called for more officers on the streets, highlighting their belief that increased presence would deter criminal activity and improve safety.

Concerns over police misconduct and inaction

Many attendees voiced dissatisfaction with the local police’s actions. Several residents accused officers of using offensive language and engaging in drug use, with one woman requesting that officers undergo drug testing.

Another resident criticized the lack of follow-through on promises made by law enforcement, stressing that despite previous assurances, the situation remained unchanged.

The lack of resources and support at the police station further fueled residents’ frustrations.

Mathale promises continued engagement

Deputy Minister Mathale acknowledged the community’s concerns and pledged to continue engaging with them.

He assured residents that their issues would be addressed, although some may not receive the desired resolution.

Mathale emphasized the importance of collaboration between the police and the community, stressing that police success depends on community support.

He also highlighted that the police’s primary role is to serve the people, and any officer failing to do so should leave their post.
