Violence Erupts at TK’s Tavern in Zone 10
A night of socializing turned deadly when a gunman opened fire at TK’s Tavern in Sebokeng, commonly known as Sgureng, in Zone 10 during the early hours of Saturday morning. The shooting left one person dead and five others injured, sending shockwaves through the community.
Eyewitness Sello Theka said the suspect arrived at the tavern with friends and his girlfriend from the Golden Gardens area. They enjoyed their drinks and socialized before a heated argument erupted.
“The suspect argued with his girlfriend over a beer. When people intervened, they reprimanded him and forced him to leave,” Theka explained.
Gunman Returns Armed and Opens Fire
Shortly after leaving, the suspect returned wielding four firearms—two in his hands and two tucked in his waistband. Without warning, he opened fire on patrons in Sebokeng Tavern.
“One man tried to restrain him from behind, but he was shot twice. The next thing I saw was him lying on the ground,” Theka recalled.
According to police reports, emergency personnel declared the victim dead at the scene, while four injured individuals received treatment at Sebokeng Hospital.
Police Seek Public Assistance
The suspect remains at large, and authorities urge anyone with information to assist in the investigation. Police encourage the public to report any leads anonymously by contacting Sebokeng SAPS at 082 498 9563, 112, 08600 10111, or via MySAPS.
Community Calls for Tavern Shutdown
Residents have long raised concerns about violence at TK’s Tavern. Palesa Marumo, a concerned community member, demanded immediate action.
“Police must shut that place down for good! Young people are losing their lives because of alcohol. Why does it operate 24 hours?” she said.
Thami Nkomo echoed similar sentiments, recalling past violent incidents, including a woman found unresponsive in a car at the venue.
“Enough is enough! When will the law take its course? People get robbed and stabbed after leaving that tavern. Authorities must act now,” Nkomo insisted.
As the investigation continues, Sebokeng residents remain on edge, calling for swift justice and urgent intervention to curb the rising violence in their community.
