The Gauteng police force seizes a 35-year-old man in a significant drug find. The authorities discovered R50 million worth of crystal meth during their operation and this prevents the continued operations of drug traffickers in South Africa.
Major drug operations produce major drug discoveries
The police department conducted this arrest through an interprovincial operation which included provinces Free State, Eastern Cape, Northern Cape, and Western Cape.
Under the leadership of Aliwal North Detectives and Crime Intelligence (CI) detectives the operation focused on stopping the transportation of illegal drugs from a potential truck.
Through conference interviews Captain Loraine Earle told about the operation details to media representatives from the police department. During our tracing operations we learned a truck planned to transport drugs from Smithfield to Aliwal North.
A team stopped the truck at Aliwal North bridge at 10:30 am and transported it to town for complete evaluation. The police team invited help from the K9 Unit and Local Criminal Record Centre (LCRC).
Major drug bust, discovery of 313.5 kg of crystal meth
Search personnel found twelve large crystal meth packets with combined weight of 313.5 kilograms worth an estimated fifty million rand making this a major drug bust. The authorities arrested the truck owner at the scene while taking the vehicle into custody for further investigation.
The prosecutor will hear criminal drug proceedings against him inside the Aliwal North Magistrate’s Court. Law enforcement teams achieved a crucial success by dismantling drug trafficking activities around the area.
