A municipal police officer with status based on EMPD regulations met his demise after getting shot in KwaThema, Ekurhuleni during first thing in the morning on Friday according to authorities.
The City of Ekurhuleni reported that two armed assailants attacked the officer outside a spaza shop during just after 8 a.m. The assailants both fired their guns at the officer as they took his personal weapon from his possession during the attack.
Law enforcement concerns intensified after an EMPD traffic warden died in Thembisa on January 29 when targeted attacks against officers became apparent.
Law enforcement authorities strongly criticized the attack
Sizakele Masuku who leads Ekurhuleni MMC for Community Safety denounced the murder of law enforcement officers by demanding immediate action to combat criminals.
The police personnel dedicate themselves to serve and safeguard communities while preserving their assets yet criminals aim to strike these protectors. This is according to MMC for Community Safety Sizakele Masuku.
The authorities currently investigate the incident without successful identification of any suspects.
