Victim’s Discovery and Connection to Previous Robbery
Police arrested three suspects, aged 22 to 37, in connection with the murder and robbery of a 34-year-old man in Hartbeespoortdam. The arrests followed diligent investigations by the Bojanala sub-district 1 (Brits) detectives, Hartbeespoortdam detectives, and community members.
Investigators discovered the body of the victim on Wednesday, April 16, 2025, in the bushes near Xanadu Estate. According to reports, a 21-year-old man and his uncle were walking along Xanadu Road when the man noticed a woman leaving the bushes and attempting to board a taxi. He recognized her as part of a group that had allegedly robbed him the previous week.
Robbery and Vehicle Discovery
The robbery occurred on Tuesday, April 8, 2025, when the 21-year-old was en route to a nearby college to drop off sports equipment. The group allegedly threatened him with knives, stealing several soccer balls, his glasses, and a jacket. Authorities later found his Volkswagen Polo abandoned in the bushes.
The 21-year-old and his uncle intercepted the woman, and they contacted a local security company for assistance. A neighbor working for the security company searched the area and found the body of the 34-year-old man in the same spot where the vehicle had been abandoned. Police were notified around 8 p.m. that evening.
Investigation Leads to Arrests and Seized Evidence
Further investigation led authorities to Brazaville Section in Atteridgeville, Gauteng, where they arrested three suspects—a woman and two men. Initial findings suggest that the woman, who allegedly worked as a “lady of the night,” teamed up with the men to rob their clients.
During the arrests, police confiscated numerous cell phones and stolen items, including the sports equipment taken from the 21-year-old victim. The trio, aged between 22 and 35, faces charges of murder and robbery. The court will schedule their appearance before the Brits Magistrates Court on Tuesday, April 22, 2025. Investigations are ongoing.
Praise for Police-Community Collaboration
Acting Provincial Commissioner, Major General Patrick Asaneng, commended the collaborative efforts of the police and community members in resolving the case. He urged the public and security companies to continue supporting law enforcement in the fight against crime.
