A 74-year-old woman is in critical condition after a brutal home invasion in Foresthaven, Phoenix, KwaZulu-Natal. The attack happened on Monday when a man entered her yard while she was doing house chores.
A terrifying ordeal
According to KZN VIP Protection Services, the suspect tied the woman up and locked her in the bathroom before ransacking the house. After searching for valuables, he tried to escape.
In an incredible act of courage, the elderly woman managed to free herself and attempted to run. But before she could get away, the suspect caught her outside and launched a violent attack. She screamed for help as he beat her before running off down Foresthaven Drive.
Neighbors rushed to help her, finding her badly injured. Emergency responders arrived, stabilized her, and took her to a hospital for further treatment.
Police urge community to help find suspect
Authorities are now searching for the attacker and are asking the public to assist. “We urge anyone with information about the suspect to come forward,” KZN VIP Protection Services stated.
The shocking incident has left the Foresthaven community shaken. Many residents said crime has been increasing, and they are afraid for their safety.
Similar crimes raise concerns
This attack comes just weeks after a similar crime in Kuruman, Northern Cape. In February, two suspects were arrested after the body of a 78-year-old man was found in bushes near his abandoned vehicle.
According to police spokesperson Colonel Cherelle Ehlers, the elderly man had gone missing on February 11. His daughter became worried when she saw his locked vehicle on the side of the road. The next day, police found his body.
These violent attacks on the elderly have sparked fears among South African communities. Many are calling for better security and stronger police presence to protect vulnerable people from such horrific crimes.
