DUNDEE, South Africa — KwaZulu-Natal police arrested two suspects connected to the deadly mass shooting that claimed four lives in the Mzomusha area of Dundee on May 23.
The police apprehended the Dundee mass shooting suspects, ages 26 and 32, in the Dundee central business district late Sunday night. A community tip-off led to the intensive police operation.
Community Tip Leads to Quick Arrests
Police spokesperson Lt. Col. Robert Netshiunda said two men, ages 31 and 35, were shot and killed outside a local residence. Then the attackers forced their way into the home. They confronted a 29-year-old woman, demanding money and drugs.
“She was shot multiple times and died at the scene,” Netshiunda said. Additionally, a 14-year-old girl inside the house died from gunshot wounds during the chaos.
Two other occupants — a woman and a man — survived the attack without injuries. The man fled the room after hearing the initial gunshots.
Investigators Eye Robbery, Drug Feud as Possible Motives
Lt. Col. Netshiunda said the suspects appeared to target robbery as their primary motive. However, investigators are also exploring a possible drug-related dispute.
“The suspects searched the victim and took an undisclosed amount of money,” he confirmed.
Detectives from the Provincial Organized Crime Unit are handling the case. Police expect more arrests as the investigation progresses.
Suspects to Face Court Over Murder, Armed Robbery
Authorities expect both suspects to appear in court soon on charges that include murder and armed robbery. Police praised the swift cooperation from the public. They also urged anyone with further information to come forward.
