Gunmen opened fire in the Mzomusha area of Dundee on May 23, killing a 14-year-old girl and three others. Police in KwaZulu-Natal have since arrested two suspects.
Law enforcement officers were able to catch the suspects, who are 26 and 32, in the Dundee CBD late on Sunday evening after a community report helped. The arrests happened following a rapid search by the Provincial Organized Crime Unit.
Information on the attack
Police Lieutenant Colonel Robert Netshiunda said the incident began with gunfire at a residence, killing two men aged 31 and 35. According to witnesses, when the suspects got into the house, they demanded money and drugs from a 29-year-old woman.
Gunmen shot the woman several times during a confrontation inside the house. A 14-year-old girl was also struck by a bullet at the scene and died instantly.
A woman and a man were also among the people who made it through the incident. He was allegedly able to make his escape once he heard the first gunshots.
Possible reasons for the deadly mass shooting and police investigation
Police believe robbery was the reason for the killing, but are still considering the possibility of a drug conflict.
The suspects allegedly searched her belongings and took an undisclosed amount of money, Netshiunda stated.

Getting charged by the court and appearing before a judge
Among the allegations against the suspects are several counts of murder and robbery. They will have to appear in court in the upcoming week.
