Police authorities in KwaZulu-Natal made four arrests among individuals between 28 and 53 years old while recovering five firearms with three rifles included in their effort to combat weapons obtained through a cash heist in Ekuvukeni.
The Umzinyathi District Task Team together with Newcastle Public Order Policing (POP) started their operation based on received information about unauthorized firearms in the region.
Weapons linked to stolen vehicle and explosives found
Police officers at the first targeting stop within the Wasbank policing precinct arrested a suspect for unlawfully carrying both a 9mm pistol and a M4 rifle as well as a Hebron-stolen vehicle that had gone missing in Gauteng province.
The police made a second arrest at a different site following which they discovered an M14 rifle together with an R5 rifle and ammunition.
According to the police, they detected four mine explosives and shotgun ammunition on a suspect which led the Glencoe K9 Unit to conduct explosive handling followed by Hawks investigations.
A different group of officers from the Greytown Crime Prevention Unit detained a male subject carrying a .38 special revolver.
All arrestees await presenting themselves in the courts
The prosecuting authorities at Greytown and Glencoe Magistrate’s Courts will hear the cases of all suspects while further investigations proceed.
