A 74-year-old woman in KZN was attacked during a robbery. She suffered serious injuries and is receiving medical care as police investigate.
Attackers brutally assaulted a 74-year-old woman and left her for dead during a robbery in Foresthaven, Phoenix, KwaZulu-Natal, on Monday.
According to KZN VIP Protection Services, residents discovered the attack and immediately alerted authorities.
“Upon arrival, officers found that an unidentified African male suspect had entered the victim’s yard while she was tending to household chores. The suspect allegedly tied the elderly woman and locked her in the bathroom before ransacking her home,” the security company said in a statement.
Despite her injuries, the woman managed to free herself and attempted to flee. However, the suspect caught up with her just outside her home and launched a vicious attack as she screamed for help.
Witnesses reported that the assailant fled moments later, running down Foresthaven Drive. Concerned residents rushed to the woman’s aid.
Community urged to assist in investigation
KZN VIP Protection Services said the victim sustained serious injuries. Paramedics stabilized her at the scene before transporting her to a nearby medical facility for further treatment.
The security company has urged the public to assist in their investigation. “We implore anyone with information that could help identify and apprehend the suspect to come forward.”
Similar crime in Northern Cape
The attack comes just weeks after another violent crime targeting the elderly. In February, authorities arrested two suspects after discovering a 78-year-old man’s body near his abandoned vehicle in Kuruman, Northern Cape.
Police spokesperson Col. Cherelle Ehlers said the man left his home on the morning of Feb. 11. His Daughter reported him missing after finding his locked bakkie abandoned on Seoding Road in Kuruman the following day. Authorities later discovered his body in nearby bushes.
Northern Cape police swiftly tracked down the suspects, leading to their immediate arrest. Police Commissioner Lt. Gen. Koliswa Otola commended officers for their quick response.
Authorities urge public vigilance
Authorities are calling on the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity.
