Man Arrested for Attempted Kidnapping of Boy in Trenance Park

A attempted kidnapping in Trenance Park, KwaZulu-Natal, has left the community in shock after a 13-year-old boy narrowly escaped a suspect armed with a knife.

The incident occurred on Thursday in Trenance Park when the Grade 9 pupil was walking home from school in Phoenix and took a less-travelled shortcut.

According to Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA), the boy noticed a man following him and grew increasingly alarmed as the suspect closed in.

“The child continued to walk past his own home and the suspect closed in on him. At that stage, the Grade 9 pupil ran into the home of an unknown person with the suspect in pursuit,” RUSA reported.

Inside the residence, the suspect attacked a man and a woman who confronted him. The male victim sustained head injuries after being assaulted with a steel lock and a broken bottle.

A Brave Escape and Swift Police Action

When RUSA officers arrived at the scene, they found an injured man outside the home. “He identified himself as one of the residents of the home and informed officers that a man armed with a knife was inside his home,” RUSA stated.

Officers surrounded the premises, covering all exits and entrances. During the search, they discovered the suspect locked inside a bedroom. “Reaction officers forced the door open after the suspect refused to exit. He drew a knife but was immediately tackled to the ground,” RUSA added.

The suspect was arrested, and it was later revealed that the home the boy had entered belonged to a police officer. This detail added a layer of irony to the incident, as the suspect unknowingly targeted a residence with a direct connection to law enforcement.
