According to police, over 11,000 people were taken into custody in KwaZulu-Natal in February for violent and serious offenses.
KwaZulu-Natal police crack down on violent crime
During operations to reduce crime in the province, authorities also seized hundreds of deadly weapons and 287 firearms.
Robert Netshuinda, a spokesman for the KwaZulu-Natal police, stated that firearms continue to be the preferred weapon of choice for those who commit murder, attempted murder, and armed robbery.
Police accused 151 individuals with attempted murder and arrested 151 in relation to murder cases.
For a variety of crimes, including cash-in-transit heists, carjacking, armed robberies, and house and business robberies, 217 individuals were arrested.
Law enforcement officials in KwaZulu-Natal stressed that these arrests are a part of the ongoing efforts to combat organized crime and violent crimes.
Authorities detained 37 people for sexual assault and 217 males on rape allegations.
2,547 persons were also taken into custody for common assault and assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm. According to the police, gang-related incidents and domestic violence were prevalent in these cases.
Weapons and firearms seized in crime-fighting operations
During separate operations, police seized 626 hazardous weapons, including 20 machetes, 12 axes, and 562 knives.
According to Iol, officers also recovered 287 illegal guns, which they claim are frequently used in violent attacks and armed robberies, in an effort to lower violent crime.
569 unauthorized foreign people were detained by police for violating the Immigration Act.
Police have promised to keep up their stepped-up efforts to combat crime throughout the province in order to protect the people and hold offenders responsible.
