Suspect Caught with Unlicensed Firearms
DUNDEE – A joint police operation led to the arrest of a 48-year-old suspect in the Engome area under the Greytown policing precinct. Officers from the Pietermaritzburg Flying Squad, Pietermaritzburg Public Order Policing (POP), and local security companies worked together in the raid.
Authorities launched the operation on Thursday, 13 February 2025, after receiving information about illegal firearms at a homestead in Ngome. Upon arrival, officers searched the premises and found two .303 rifles, two pistols, and ammunition. Further searches uncovered a South African National Defence Force (SANDF) uniform.
Police Investigation and Arrest
Investigators took the suspect into custody immediately. He is expected to appear before the Greytown Magistrate’s Court. Law enforcement officials continue probing the origins of the seized weapons and any possible links to criminal activities.

Cape Town Police Investigate Murder Case
CAPE TOWN – In an unrelated case, Cape Town police have launched a murder investigation after discovering a 40-year-old man’s body in Westridge, Mitchells Plain. Officers responded to a call at Paddock Field shortly after 9 a.m. on Friday.
The victim had multiple gunshot wounds. Investigators have not yet determined a motive. Police spokesperson FC van Wyk stated that detectives are working to uncover details surrounding the shooting.
Authorities Call for Witnesses
“The motive for this incident remains under investigation by the South African Police Service,” said Van Wyk. “Anyone with information is encouraged to contact Crime Stop or use the MySAPS mobile app.”
