A 22-year-old man, Tebogo ‘Lepai’ Maboa, has appeared before the Mankweng Magistrate’s Court on murder charges in Sebayeng town, Polokwane district of Limpopo.
He is accused of participating in the July killing of a 59-year-old man in Sebayeng alongside five other suspects, including one man and three women.
Four suspects were arrested in December, while Maboa evaded capture until his recent arrest in Gauteng. The suspects allegedly targeted the victim for a lump sum he had received from an accident fund.
When he refused to hand over the money, he was reportedly strangled, and the perpetrators fled on foot.
Police spokesperson Brigadier Hlulani Mashaba confirmed that among those arrested are Wilson Mashao Malatji (24), Tebatso Mahakwana (23), Flora Mabitsela (39), and Kate Maboa (41), the mother of the 22-year-old suspect, who has also appeared in court in connection with the murder.
