Alleging over three decades of service, Lieutenant Colonel Khomisani William Nkuna directs the SAPS Polokwane Vehicle Crime Investigation Unit (VCIU) in achieving the interception of around 40 stolen vehicles in Limpopo throughout this year.

Nkuna’s dedication and leadership

For thirty-four years Nkuna dedicated himself to fighting vehicle crimes in Limpopo. His journey from shift driving positions at the start of his career brought him to lead one of Limpopo province’s essential investigative investigative units as the commanding officer.

The VCIU together with Nkuna’s leadership has obtained 72 convictions that resulted in prisoners serving more than 472 years while the unit also secured 39 recovered stolen vehicles during the year 2025.

The accomplishment of his Diploma in Policing helped Nkuna secure his position in the detective service as his academic interest in law enforcement grew stronger. The sector policing work which earned him recognition three times between 2004 and 2010 demonstrates his commitment to public security.

His expertise in vehicle crime began in 2009 after catching a car thief with his private automobile in Polokwane. His outstanding work at the Polokwane VCIU received recognition through a commendation certificate in 2011 because of his successful reduction of carjacking crimes. The leader gained promotion to lieutenant colonel status in 2022.

Nkuna led the VCIU team through 39 stolen vehicle interceptions in 2025. The Easter travel period brings elevated vehicle traffic and heightened threats to motorists by criminal gangs so Nkuna has directed his forces to conduct increased operations against vehicle theft.
