AddiConBOTLOKWA, LIMPOPO – A SAPS officer allegedly shot and killed her son and his girlfriend in what has become known as the Botlokwa shooting. The tragic incident took place at her Mokomene-Mashaha home on February 13, 2025.
Officer Admits to Fatal Shooting
Authorities identified the officer as Sergeant Sathekge Mosibudi. Absurdly, Sathekge called the police at 9:48 p.m., confessing to shooting her 25-year-old son. She shot him, Sathekge Khutso Remembrance, with her service firearm.

After the call,the police and paramedics arrived at the scene to find the young man lifeless with gunshot wounds.
Furthermore, reports indicate he was holding a sharp object. Meanwhile, his 21-year-old girlfriend had also been shot, sustained critical injuries, and later died in the hospital.
Arrest and Investigation Underway
Immediately following the tragic event, police arrested Mosibudi at the scene and opened two murder cases against her. Subsequently, the Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) took over the investigation to determine the motive behind the Botlokwa shooting.
As the investigation progresses, authorities are carefully analyzing forensic evidence and gathering witness statements. Moreover, concerns over firearm use among law enforcement officers have intensified, prompting renewed discussions on police accountability.
Court Appearance and Public Reaction
On February 17, 2025, Mosibudi appeared before the Morebeng Magistrate’s Court. Prosecutors are preparing to present strong evidence in the upcoming proceedings.
