On Tuesday evening, around 8 p.m., an elderly couple, aged 80 and 83, was discovered deceased and bound with ropes in separate rooms of their residence in Ga-Kuranta village.
Elderly couple found dead and bound in separate rooms
Brigadier Hlulani Mashaba, spokesperson for the provincial police, confirmed that authorities were notified of the crime and promptly arrived at the scene. Upon arrival, officers found two deceased individuals. An 83-year-old man was discovered sitting on the floor with a rope around his neck, while an 80-year-old woman was found lying on her back in a separate room, similarly restrained with a rope tied to the ceiling.
“The male victim was positioned with the rope encircling his neck,” Mashaba stated. “The female victim was positioned on her back, with a rope secured around her neck, looking upwards.”
Emergency Medical Services (EMS) pronounced both victims deceased at the scene. Mashaba observed that neither of the deceased displayed any apparent injuries. The next of kin confirmed the identities of the victims as Maphetola Selaelo Rasodi and Malekutu Alfred Mokhupi.
Police launch investigation into house robbery and double murder
According to Iol, authorities indicated that two mobile phones belonging to the victims were taken during the event. The reason for the murders is still unknown, and a case involving a house robbery along with two murder charges has been initiated. The investigation is being led by the Mokwakwaila police station, which is part of the Mopani district.
