WITPOORT, South Africa (May 10, 2025) – Limpopo police have launched a manhunt for suspects involved in a recent case of Limpopo infrastructure theft at a farm in Witpoort, near Lephalale.

Incident Timeline and Details

According to police reports, the crime occurred between Thursday, May 8, at around 3:30 p.m. and Friday, May 9, at approximately 4:30 p.m. Provincial police spokesperson Col. Malesela Ledwaba said the suspects gained entry by cutting the farm’s perimeter fence.

“They targeted an electrical transformer,” Ledwaba explained. “Then they dismantled it and removed critical components.”

A farm employee later discovered the damage and missing parts during a routine patrol. The theft caused major damage, with the estimated loss totaling several thousand rand. Clearly, the suspects knew the value of the parts they removed.

Police Leadership Responds

Limpopo Police Commissioner Lt. Gen. Thembi Hadebe strongly condemned the incident and responded firmly.

“Criminals attacking our electrical infrastructure threaten the stability of both our communities and economy,” Hadebe said. “We have prioritized this case.”

Moreover, she emphasized that law enforcement will exhaust all efforts to bring the culprits to justice.
