The Limpopo High Court has scheduled the trial for Fannie Malope Seribishane, 57. He faces charges of killing nurse Mumsy Seribishane. The trial will run from August 4 to August 8, with the defendant facing charges of murder, domestic violence, unlawful possession of a firearm, and unlawful possession of ammunition.
The Murder of Mumsy Seribishane
Police arrested Seribishane in connection with the brutal killing of 52-year-old Mumsy Seribishane, a nurse at Lebowakgomo Hospital. Police spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba confirmed that the provincial tracking team, along with the murder and robbery unit, apprehended the suspect. A 56 years old, in the Lebowakgomo area.
Details of the Incident
On October 23, 2024, Seribishane shot the nurse near the hospital gates while she was heading to work. At approximately 5 p.m., he gunned her down, and she succumbed to gunshot wounds. A case was filed immediately after the incident The investigation was handed over to the provincial detectives unit. On November 13, 2024, an intelligence-driven operation led to the arrest of the suspect in Lebowakgomo Zone A. The accused declined to apply for bail during his court appearance.
Arrest and Evidence Seized
In addition to the murder charges, authorities found the suspect in possession of a police firearm and ammunition. Same firearms were reported stolen from the Seshego precinct in June 2024. Police also seized a Volkswagen Golf 7, believed to have been used in the commission of the crime.
The Democratic Nursing Union of South Africa (Denosa) in Limpopo had previously called for an investigation into the fatal shooting.
The assailant shot the nurse just after she got out of a taxi and walked toward the hospital’s gate. Kapudi Moagi, a provincial health spokesperson, confirmed that Seribishane, an enrolled nursing assistant in the female surgical ward, was killed just meters from the hospital entrance. Moagi said the assailant allegedly approached Seribishane and shot her on the spot.
