Two drivers were arrested for excessive speeding along the N1 freeway in Limpopo as the Easter long weekend approaches.

A 36-year-old driver in a blue Volkswagen Polo was caught traveling at 185km/h in a 120km/h zone near Bela-Bela. The arrest was made by traffic law enforcement officers on Monday, and the driver is scheduled to appear in the Bela-Bela Magistrate’s Court.

The Limpopo Department of Transport and Community Safety issued a stern reminder about the consequences of reckless driving, especially during high travel periods.

Speeding incidents highlight the need for responsible driving

In another incident, IOL reported that a maroon Volkswagen Golf driver was arrested last week for traveling at 182km/h in a 120km/h zone.

This driver was granted R1,000 bail and is also expected to appear in the Bela-Bela Magistrate’s Court. The Limpopo Department of Transport reiterated that speed limits are in place to protect road users and that reckless driving will not be tolerated.

With Easter approaching, the department urged drivers to follow traffic regulations to ensure safe travel for all.
