Judgment pronounced a 15-year prison term on Matarapane Samuel Mokonyane because he possessed an unlicensed firearm along with ammunition in Limpopo.

Mokonyane received an arrest warrant on July 23, 2021 after police received intelligence about planned armed robbery activities.

Reason for being sentenced to 15 Years

Police stopped the white Ford Ranger while it traveled along the R579 road connecting Motetema to Groblersdal in the Sekhukhune District.

Mokonyane had a firearm along with ammunition which lacked a license during a police vehicle search. Police officials arrested Mokonyane before he received bail.

In March 2025 Mokonyane faced the Nebo Regional Court which convicted him for carrying unlicensed firearm and ammunition possessions, therefore sentenced to 15 Years.

During his address Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe commended the Provincial Organised Crime Unit while explaining that the ruling of the man sentenced to 15 years provided a significant warning about firearm-related offenses.

The law enforcement officers demonstrate their continuous dedication to remove illegal firearms from community spaces through this strong conviction according to Hadebe.
